Officers lauded in SGAN, turn over positions

The University Student Government, under the management of the office of the Executive Secretary, held the USG’s turnover ceremony and Student Government Awards Night (SGAN) at the Henry Sy Sr. Roofdeck last April 19, Friday.

The turnover program shows appreciation for the outgoing officers for their struggles and achievements. It is the official means of handing over the responsibility to the appointed officers.

Outgoing Executive Secretary Sasa Hermoso and Raymund Nejal, outgoing College Assembly President of the College of Liberal Arts, served as emcees for the ceremony, which began with an address by the Student-LIFE Director, Evelyn Lopez-Esparrago.

In addition to acknowledging the efforts of the outgoing USG officers in the development of the university, she mentioned the significant accomplishments of the University in the preceding year. Integration with Science and Technology Complex (STC) was one important achievement. Another is the boost in the income of the USG from the proceeds University Mission Statement week. From the yearly income of around Php 100, 000, last year the USG was able to gain about Php 500, 000. The amount went to the beneficiaries and scholarship funds through the One La Salle Fund.

Esparrago’s speech was followed by farewell videos from the outgoing officers. The videos were followed by the awarding proper, for which projects, officers, and units were awarded for their performance during the year.

Several awards were given to the individuals and committees whose projects contributed in the overall development of the students, with certain nominations for each award. For those projects headed by committees, winners were determined by means of ballots filled by the USG officers. Deliberation with the Executive Board was also part of the criteria for projects headed by individual officers.

Outgoing USG President Jana Cabuhat explains that the turnover symbolizes a personal relationship of former and the next officers. She further expounds that it is during the turnover program when the outgoing officials give pieces of advice or any tangible thing to the incumbent officers which would help the latter face all the struggles and challenges that the former officials went through.
