UAAP: Unbeaten Lady Archers notch fifth straight win

With just two games away from completing a first round sweep in the 76th season of the UAAP, the DLSU Lady Archers trounced the UE Amazons in a convincing landslide, 63-35. Seemingly avenging their male counterparts’ loss to the same school yesterday, the Lady Archers pulled off a one-sided victory to silence their foes through a gigantic 28-point margin.

With their fifth consecutive win, the Lady Archers sit atop the Women’s Division with an unscathed 5-0 record together with the defending champions, the FEU Lady Tamaraws, whom they will face at the end of the elimination round.

The Lady Archers towered over the Amazons throughout the entire duel. Starting the game with a 19-7 lead to end the first quarter, the Taft-based squad dominated the action early on and never looked behind. Continuing their dominance, head coach Ty Bautista’s team doubled the output of their opponents, 34-17, by halftime. As a result of the lopsided victory, all 16 Lady Archers were able to see action on the court.

The second half marked no significant changes in the story of the game. With UE still unable to defend against the forceful scoring of the Taft-based squad, Lady Archers Ara Abaca and Trisha Piatos continued to explode offensively, tallying 30 of the team’s 63 points. Abaca also grabbed a team high 11 rebounds to complete another double-double showing for the reigning Mythical Team Member. Turnovers also spelled doom for the Amazons as the Lady Archers were able to convert 24 points off of their errors.

The undefeated Lady Archers aim for their sixth win in as many games as they test the 4-1 NU Lady Bulldogs on Sunday, July 28 at the Arena in San Juan.
