Exemplary performances on the hardcourt

As the first month of the UAAP has come to a close, The LaSallian takes a look back at a few of the most impressive performances so far. Though basketball is a team sport, there is always a need for players to step up and will their teams to victory. It is important that players know their role and these exemplary athletes picked up the slack for their team when they were needed the most.

Ara Abaca

After being named to the UAAP Mythical Team a year ago and bagging the Fil-Oil Flying V Cup MVP last summer, Ara Abaca continues to be a beacon of excellence for the Lady Archers. In their 58-56 win against UST, Abaca had her finest game of the season so far with 20 points on 50 percent field goal shooting, 17 rebounds and two assists. Though her team has lost its bid for an undefeated season, the Lady Archers continue their quest to win the UAAP championship for the first time in 10 years and they will rely heavily on Abaca to deliver once again.

Jeron Teng

Jeron Teng had a monster game last July 13 against the FEU Tamaraws, putting up a double-double in an overtime loss. Teng put up a game-high 25 points to go along with 15 rebounds and four assists and he had a good overall game despite allowing a comeback from the unbeaten FEU Tamaraws. 15 out of his 25 points came in the first half as he torched the Tamaraws every time he drove to the rim. Besides from posting huge numbers in the scoring column, Teng has also been sharing the ball more often this season, evidenced by his 3.7 assists per game. He also averages 6.7 rebounds and a steal per game as he continues to evolve into a more complete player.

Almond Vosotros

How do you spell efficient? Almond Vosotros had a remarkable outing against the UE Red Warriors after he scored a career-high 26 points, beating his previous record of 23. The sharpshooter was able to accomplish his career-high in an efficient manner, hitting 58% of his shots from the field. Vosotros was able to make 70% of his shots inside the arc, torching the Red Warriors with his deadly mid-range jumpers. The fourth year guard had a good showing overall especially in the second half where he scored 15 out of his 26 points, nine of which came in the third quarter.
