The Philippines’ Sikat II is currently in 3rd place in its class as the World Solar Challenge (WSC) enters the second stage of the competition on October 9.

Sikat II has traveled 1,267 solar miles since the biennial solar car race kicked off in Darwin on Sunday. Solar mile is the distance traveled by the car relying solely on the sun’s power.

The solar car did not experience problems in the first half of the journey, except for system re‐calibrations.

“This is a milestone for the Philippines as we are able to reach 1,267 solar miles at this stage of the competition. The team remains positive that we will continue to perform well in the second half of the race,” says team manager Dr. Alvin Culaba.

There are 42 teams from 24 countries that entered the WSC this year.

Sikat II is expected to reach the finish line in Adelaide on October 11.

Sikat II is a product of engineering students and faculty of De La Salle University and is supported by the Sikat Solar Challenge Foundation.
