The third time was the charm for the DLSU Green Booters as they took their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over UP in FEU Diliman. Both teams entered the match as the only teams remaining in the league without a point and both teams hoped to avoid solo possession of last place after the game.
DLSU seemed more determined though as Nathan Alquiros sliced through the defense for several clean attempts. At the 11 minute mark, Alquiros had an attempt blocked but Charlseton Uy controlled the rebound and scored, allowing La Salle to take an early lead which they kept for the rest of the first half.
As the second half began however, UP was resilient with their attack and Jinggoy Valmayor was the recipient of a pinpoint cross pass that allowed him to equalize the game off a header just 50 seconds in.
With the game going back to square one, both teams were once again on equal footing until Greggy Yang sent a long pass from the back of the defense to Inigo Gonzales right in front of the goal for an easy conversion that put them ahead for good. Valmayor and Daniel Gadia had several good attempts to tie the game at two goals apiece though several barely missed the goal or were denied by the woodwork in the second half.
The win comes as a sigh of relief for the Green Booters after they dropped a 2-0 loss to UST in the opener and a heart breaking 2-1 loss to UE in their previous outing. In the defeat against UE, DLSU actually went ahead at the 50 minute mark via a goal from Uy but hotshot Fitch Arboleda scored two consecutive goals within the next 10 minutes to steal the win.
Up next for the Green Booters are NU, whom they will face on December 8 at 1 pm in the same venue.
