Down 3-1 against the AdU Soaring Falcons heading into the ninth inning, the undefeated record of the DLSU Green Batters seemed to be in jeopardy. Struggling against the seemingly flawless pitching of AdU, despite their undefeated record on the line, the Green Batters were brought back down to Earth during the first eight innings of the match after dominating their first three games en route to a 3-0 win-loss record to start the season.
The Green Batters were playing catch up in the first six innings as Adamson’s pitcher Lourence Ruiz held them to no runs, while maintaining the one run they scored in the first inning. This didn’t last long as the Green squad finally got through as pinch hitter Martin Nolasco hit the team’s first RBI. However, when the inning turned to the bottom of the seventh, the Falcons scored another run. They tacked on with another run in the eighth.
With the De La Salle team’s back against the wall at the top of the ninth (if the away team gets three outs at the top of the ninth while lagging behind the home team, they lose), the Green Batters managed to get Enrico Flores, Pocholo Dominguez and Paul Naguit on base without conceding an out and loading the bases. After which, third baseman Dino Imperial stepped up to the plate and nailed a pitch to right field for a bases clearing double to give DLSU a 4-3 lead. Carlos Munoz then got the needed three outs to make La Salle’s record a perfect 4-0.
Up next for the Green Batters are the UP Fighting Maroons, whom they will face this Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Diamond.
