The DLSU Green Batters held on and survived a late rally to beat the UP Fighting Maroons, 14-11, this Sunday, February 2 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond.
This win helps maintain La Salle’s place at the top of the standings with a 7-1 win-loss record and it also secures their entry into the best-of-three finals series with two games remaining in the elimination round.
The Green-and-White struck first in the game, amassing eight runs at bottom of the first inning compared to zero for UP. The next inning saw La Salle batting in another three runs to race to an 11-0 lead.
UP was able to get their first run in that same inning though and from that point, the Fighting Maroons took control. They began chipping away at the Green Batters’ lead by scoring three runs each in the third, fourth and fifth innings. However, two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth from the Green Batters couples with a lone run in the eighth inning by the Maroons sealed the victory for DLSU. The game ended with a strikeout.
The Green Batters’s next assignment are the AdU Soaring Falcons, whom they will face at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond on Thursday, February 6, at 9:30 am.
UPDATE: NU’s 6-4 loss to AdU on February 2 eliminated them from contention, setting up a finals series between the Green Batters and the defending champion ADMU Blue Eagles.
