The DLSU Lady Spikers continued their dominating run earlier today in the San Juan Arena as they swept the UE Lady Warriors with scores 25-16, 25-15, and 25-14. Starting setter Kim Fajardo was hailed as the player of the game with five points coming from one attack, two blocks, two service aces, and 29 excellent sets.

Meanwhile, the DLSU Green Spikers won a crucial match against Adamson in four sets: 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, and 25-18. With their victory, the Green Spikers are now tied with Adamson at fourth place with a 7-6 win-loss record to keep their Final Four chances alive.

A fast win

The Lady Spikers came in strong against the Lady Warriors in the first set, with the latter’s errors giving easy points to the Lady Spikers. DLSU effectively used their offense to take the first set, 25-16.

It was a team effort for the Lady Spikers as they maintained their winning momentum in the second set. Team captain Abigail Marano and Cyd Demecillo were crucial on offense while Mika Reyes and Ara Galang held their own on the defensive end. Demecillo tallied a total of 10 points followed by Marano and Reyes, who both contributed eight. Errors once again made it difficult for the Lady Warriors to catch up, as DLSU easily pulled away in the second set, 25-15.

In the third set, the Lady Spikers weren’t complacent as they held a comfortable lead against UE at 18-11. La Salle kept their composure and maximized their solid execution as they ended the match, 25-14.

Head coach Ramil De Jesus utilized a couple of his bench players in the match including Carol Cerveza, Majoy Baron and Denice Tan. Cerveza contributed two points for the Lady Spikers while Baron and Tan had one point apiece.

Keeping the chances alive

The Green Spikers seemed to be very eager to take home the win against Adamson as they took the first set, 25-18. Powered by team captain Philip Cerveza and key players Red Christensen and Raymark Woo, the Green Spikers held on in a close second set and won it, 25-21.

The tables suddenly turned around as the Soaring Falcons mounted a comeback against the Green Spikers. Adamson tried to extend the match after beating La Salle in the third set, 25-21.

La Salle didn’t let another set to slip away in the fourth set, leading by as much as five points at 19-14. They maintained their composure and their lead to avoid any late game collapses as they took the fourth set, 25-18.

The Lady Spikers are just a win away from sweeping the eliminations and earning a crucial thrice-to-beat advantage. They will be facing one of their potential opponents in the finals, the NU Lady Bulldogs, on Saturday, February 15 at 4pm in the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Green Spikers will meanwhile take on the still winless UE Red Warriors for their last game of the eliminations on February 16, Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
