Following the election of college magistrates last week, the Chief Magistrate for this academic year was determined during the Leadership Excellence and Dynamism event held on Saturday, May 31. The event, attended by the newly elected officers of the University Student Government (USG), was held at a resort in Talisay, Batangas.
Angel Pascual, incumbent college magistrate for the School of Economics, was elected Chief Magistrate via a landslide margin.
She was given twenty minutes to present her platform for the Judiciary branch. A question in answer segment was held thereafter, in which Pascual was put on the spot to answer queries from several USG officers and administrators from the Office of Student Leadership Involvement, Formation and Development.
Since Pascual was the sole candidate running for the position, she was required to obtain 50% + 1 of the votes from those present. USG President Carlo Innocencio and Chief Legislator Patrick Kahn counted the ballots and proclaimed Pascual the new Chief Magistrate.
Pascual was the only candidate qualified to run due to there being a rule in the Judiciary stating that to be the Chief Magistrate, a student must have accomplished one year’s worth of residency in the said branch. Prior to this year, Pascual was also the College Magistrate of the School of Economics. Pascual is taking Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics and Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (AE-BSA).
