After falling in the first two games of UAAP Season 77, the DLSU Green Archers look to regain championship form once again as they try to extend their winning streak to three straight games against the AdU Soaring Falcons this coming Saturday, August 2, at 4 pm in the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Adamson has yet to win a game for this season, plunging into the bottom of the standings, while La Salle looks to boost their record to an above .500 mark.

Last year’s dominance

The Green Archers dominated the Soaring Falcons in last season’s run, sweeping the season series 2-0. Though La Salle won in both games, Adamson did not make it easy for them as both games were decided in the final seconds.

The first game showcased a balanced La Salle team with five players scoring in double-digits. The game also featured La Salle’s efficiency in the free throw line, making 81.8% of their free throws and outrebounding the Falcons, 42-36. The game ended with a margin of only three points, 70-67.

Almond Vosotros came out big in the second round game, scoring the last shot that gave La Salle a one-point lead, sealing the win 70-69. Though La Salle was outrebounded, 52-40, the Green Archers backed it up in the assist column with 18.

What to look out for

With the departure of Rodney Brondial, Roider Cabrera, and Jericho Cruz, Adamson looks to be in a difficult situation to win this season.

Rookies Ivan Villanueva, William Polican, and Jessie Pedrosa, however, are showing hopes for the downed falcons as they lead their rookie-laden squad in statistics. During their games against Ateneo and UE, Villanueva and Polican came out big scoring 15 and 16, respectively.

La Salle looks to be in good shape after winning its last two games and have adjusted their play well without point guard Thomas Torres manning the playmaking duties. Moreover, Norbert Torres’ numbers have already been improving, making La Salle’s front line even more of a challenge for the whole league.

Though Adamson are still 0-4 for the season, La Salle also have not won a game with a big margin. Moreover, a game against the defending champions might be the motivation that the downed falcons need to turn their season around.

It would be a critical fifth game of the season for both teams as the outcome would definitely affect the momentum of both squads for the rest of the season. Will Adamson win their first game, or will La Salle extend their winning streak to three? One thing is for sure, both squads are hungry for this win.
