The stakes have certainly become higher for the DLSU varsity teams this UAAP Season 77. The run for a third straight General Championship (GC) trophy has gotten the whole Lasallian community even more hyped up. La Salle’s newest courtside reporter Jeanine Tsoi will be manning the courtside reporter duties for this season and will chronicle La Salle’s road to a GC three-peat.

As La Salle’s newest courtside reporter, Tsoi will be giving updates on Lasallian sports action not just for the whole DLSU community, but to every UAAP fan nationwide. For now, though, with the basketball season underway, Tsoi will grace our TV screens during every match-up of the DLSU Green Archers.

Life before the UAAP sidelines

Hailing from Immaculate Conception Academy, Jeanine Beatrice Tsoi initially took Advertising Management (BS-ADV) when she entered La Salle, but she eventually shifted to Industrial Management Engineering minor in Service Management (BSIME-SM). Though she admitted that she is just like any other typical college girl, the curiosity of experiencing the world drives her to try out new things for herself.

“Because I’m the kind of person who likes doing so many things at the same time, parang that’s what I want eh. I’m really up for the challenge, that’s why I’m in this course [BSIME-SM] now, because I wanted to test myself.”, says Tsoi who also said that her curiosity led her to audition for the job of courtside reporter.

Apart from her courtside duties in the UAAP, Tsoi also tried out modeling, and she once interned for TopShop back in 2011 under the Robinsons Store Specialists Inc. summer internship program. For her efforts, Tsoi was named The Next Retail Tycoon after receiving the highest sales figure, totaling to more than PHP 200,000 in sales. Moreover, Tsoi was also been included in the Dean’s List during her earlier years in the University.

Adjusting to new responsibilities

Together with her fellow aspirants, Tsoi did not expect to become DLSU’s newest courtside reporter. The talent put up by other hopefuls was overwhelming for the Engineering student. After several casting rounds, she was finally chosen for the job. “When I learned that I got chosen, first thing talaga I felt was to be thankful to the man up there,” says Tsoi.

“This courtside thing really affected me internally, more like it made me stronger as a person. It made me know my weaknesses, it made me know my strengths,” Tsoi says when asked about the courtside experience. She also talks about the struggle of balancing time between modeling, being a courtside reporter, and of course, being a student. Taking everything one day at a time is how she keeps herself from getting overwhelmed by the tasks at hand.

Already a few games into the UAAP season, Tsoi is showing no signs of slowing down. The newest courtside reporter is up and about on every possession of each game. Most importantly, she continues to be a camera-favorite while keeping her grades afloat.

When asked about her expectations from herself and the team, Tsoi states that being a courtside reporter has given her the opportunity to grow. She expects that each game allows her to learn more about basketball and the broadcasting field, while uncovering her own capabilities in the process.

As a rookie in her own way, hopes are high for this young lady to develop even more in the paths she has chosen to take at a young age. With such talent and experience, great possibilities are ahead of her. But right now, being La Salle’s courtside reporter is her main focus. As the Green Archers seek to notch another UAAP championship, expect their newest muse, Jeanine Tsoi, to be right at the sidelines, delivering the freshest reports for all the viewers to hear.
