UAAP: Lady Spikers rout NU, Green Spikers remain winless

The third day of the UAAP Season 77 Beach Volleyball tournament went well for the Lady Spikers as they won their match, to extend their winning streak to three. Meanwhile, their male counterparts are still trying to register a win as they lost both their games.

Kim Fajardo, Cyd Demecillo and Ara Galang of the Lady Spikers took their third straight win of the season after surviving the feisty NU Lady Bulldogs in three sets. La Salle had the early advantage by taking the first set but NU managed to bounce back in the second set through their solid and consistent plays that pushed for a third and deciding set.

In the deciding set, the momentum shifted back to the side of the Lady Spikers. Fajardo and Demecillo never looked back and won a convincing set to seal the match in their favor, 21-17, 20-22, 15-9.

Meanwhile, Green Spikers Mike Frey, Kevin Dimayuga and Jopet Movido are still in search for their first win as they suffered their fourth straight loss against the AdU Soaring Falcons in straight sets. Dimayuga’s solid attacks and Frey’s consistent defense almost put an end to La Salle’s drought, but with hard hit spikes from the Adamson side, the latter won the set, 24-22.

The second set appeared like the replay of the first as both teams played a close game. But with Adamson playing tough and smart against La Salle, the Soaring Falcons finally took home the victory, 24-22, 21-17.

The Green Spikers failed to get a win in their last match of the day as they were defeated by UST. The first set went to UST, 21-16. Dimayuga’s solid attacks were not enough to let them have the set as UST would answer back with two or more attacks of their own.

The second set was an easy win by UST as they showered DLSU with powerful attacks, quickly gaining a huge lead on the Green Spikers and eventually taking the set 21-8.

Up next for the Green Spikers are the NU Bulldogs whom they will face on August 30 at 8am. Meanwhile, the Lady Spikers will try to extend their winning streak as they face the FEU Lady Tamaraws and the UE Lady Warriors on August 30 at 11 am and 1 pm respectively. All games will be held at the UE Caloocan Sand Court.
