UAAP: Green Spikers fall to NU, drop second straight match

The Green Spikers had a rough time against the NU Bulldogs, getting swept in three sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-19, in their game earlier today at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

The Green Spikers struggled throughout the game, committing many errors which resulted in points for the opposing side. The loss is their second straight after dropping their first match against the UP Fighting Maroons last November 23.

In the first set, the Bulldogs raced to a 9-2 advantage as a result of several service errors and spikes. Peter Torres and Fauzi Ismail of NU capitalized on defensive miscues from the green side to help their team take the first set, 25-16, in dominating fashion.

The Taft-based Spikers rallied in the second set, matching every point scored by the Bulldogs with several good blocks behind the efforts of Rafael Del Pilar and Aaron Calderon. They led 17-14 until NU released a scoring barrage led once again by Ismail, which led to them securing the second set, 25-21.

The third set began similarly with the first, with the Green-and-White surrendering the first six points to the Bulldogs. The Green Spikers attempted another comeback, but were shut by a barrage of spikes and errors from the opponents. The set ended with the score, 25-19, giving the Bulldogs the victory.

The Green Spikers will resume action on Wednesday, hoping to finally get their first victory against the UE Red Warriors at the San Juan Arena.
