The holiday season is here, and even though many use the break as an opportunity to unwind and celebrate, it’s not simply just a time for feasts, reunions, and vacations. It is also the time to reflect upon the year that has passed and to prepare for the start of a new year.
Recently, various Lasallian athletes shared their experiences from this past year–from their shortcomings to their aspirations for the year to come.
“Last Christmas, I would say I was more of a slacker. Now, I’m more responsible. I do my things responsibly, I prioritize the important things I need to do. For example since [the] UAAP is very near, I prioritize that [tournament] because we only have a month left for [the] UAAP so what I do is I focus on that.” -Pocholo Dominguez, DLSU Green Batters
“Last Christmas, culture shock pa ako sa La Salle since rookie ako noon. This christmas naman, naka-adjust na ako then nagsa-start na ako i-feel yung rhythm ko, and looking forward [ako na] mag improve pa ako since maraming mag ga-graduate at tsaka kailangan talaga mag step-up.” -Alyanna Stephanie Vergara, DLSU Lady Archers
“Last Christmas, kulang ako sa mga training, techniques, and lessons sa fencing. But this Christmas, I am more equipped because I was exposed to different playing techniques through competitions this year and Coach Ramil Endriano taught me new techniques/plays that I was not familiar with before. Like I said, I want to prove na may mararating yung pinaghirapan ko. Yung mga late kong napasang paper, yung mga masasakit na tama ng blade, yung mga pawis at oras na binibigay ng mga teammates ko, ako at pati ng Coach ko, may patutunguhan yung mga yon. gusto ko patunayan [sa tournament] yan.” -May Montenegro, DLSU Lady Fencers
“I guess, from last Christmas, as an athlete my game got better. I matured more. [I became] more confident in myself. And there is a big overall improvement for me and my team from last year.” -Jose Montelibano, DLSU Green Booters
Since last Christmas, of course we’ve learned a lot from the past games and sa time na binigay sa amin kasi matagal yung naging preparation namin. Siguro, what we’ve improved [on] is knowing kung ano yung mga pagkakamali namin before. Yung naging adjustment is yung pag uusap sa isa’t isa. And I think isa narin sa mga adjustment is naging solid this year [yung team]. I’m not saying hindi solid yung [team] dati pero dahil sa experience namin ng pagkatalo, mas nakilala naming ang isa’t isa. Sana mag-improve pa kami after this Christmas.” -Camille Cruz, DLSU Lady Spikers
