Special Term guidelines explained in scholars’ forum

A scholars’ forum hosted by the Lasallian Scholars Society (LSS) and the Office of Admissions and Scholarships (OAS) was held last January 23 at the Pablo Nicolas Seminar Room to answer different scholarship concerns. The scholarship guidelines that are set to take effect during the special term were also discussed.

As stated in the implementing scholarship guidelines, undergraduate scholars who are scheduled to graduate by special term can avail their grants in full.

On the other hand, non-graduating students can only avail both their tuition and fee benefits on that term provided they take the courses specified on their program checklist for summer term.

Otherwise, if they choose to take additional courses, only their tuition fees would be covered and all other fees will not be waived by the University. Scholars are also given the permission to work should they choose not to enroll in the term.

During the open forum, a question was raised if classes which involved laboratory use would be covered in the tuition and fees. This is in reference to the fact that a laboratory fee is charged to a student whenever they enroll in a laboratory course.

OAS clarified that only the course as part of the tuition is covered, and that the laboratory fee, which is separate from the tuition, would not be covered.

Another question was raised if students who are not yet scheduled to graduate by special term and opted to graduate earlier, will be covered in full by the scholarship. The office acknowledged the choice, and that those who intend on finishing their studies by special term are fully covered by their grant. This means that the scholars can take more units than prescribed as long as they graduate by the end of the trimester.
