The DLSU Green Tennisters concluded their UAAP Season 77 campaign with losses against the UST Growling Tigers and the UE Red Warriors last February 14 and 15, respectively. With the losses, the Green Tennisters end their season with a 4-6 record, failing to land a playoff spot.
Their female counterparts, however, managed to steal a win against the UST Tigresses last February 14 to secure a playoff berth. They ended their regular season with a 5-3 win-loss record and will battle UST again on February 21 for the right to challenge the NU Lady Bulldogs in the finals.
Green Tennisters struggle
It was a tough weekend for the Green Tennisters, losing both of their matchups against UST and UE and getting eliminated for playoff contention.
LA Canizanes started the matches against UST last saturday, winning against the Tigers’ Francisco Santos, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. The duo of Alberto Villamor and Ernesto Pantua continued the run for the Green Tennisters, running away with a tough 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win against UST’s Joel Cabusas and Bernilo Leroy Bering. Unfortunately for La Salle, it would mark their last win for the season as Qoqo Allian, Kyle Parpan, and the duo of Akio Sy and Dale Gorospe all fell against their matchups, ending the game with a 3-2 score in favor of UST.
For their last game of the season, La Salle battled UE last sunday, hoping to end the season on a high note. Luck was not in their favor however, as they were swept by UE, 5-0.
For the Men’s division, the undefeated NU will face UST, who has a 7-3 record, in the finals.
Lady Tennisters rise
The Lady Tennisters won against the UST Tigresses with a final score of 3-2 to secure their spot in the playoffs.
Rachelle De Guzman was first to grab a win for the Lady Tennisters, defeating UST’s Lenelyn Milo with the scores of 6-2, 6-1. Lady Tennister Nikki Arandia followed it up as she outlasted Kendies Malinis in the second singles match, 6-4, 6-2. To bag their third win, Marinel Rudas beat Macy Gonzales, 6-3, 6-1.
The doubles matches, however, did not go as well as their singles matches. Both Lady Tennister pairs were unable to get the better of the UST Tigresses.
The Lady Tennisters will once again play the UST Tigresses at 9am this coming Saturday, February 21, at the Olivarez College in Parañaque City. The winner will advance and face NU in the finals.
