After their recent victory against the UST Growling Tigers, the De La Salle Green Archers are set to play in the first quarterfinals round of the FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup this Wednesday, June 10, against the Perpetual Help Altas at the San Juan Arena.
The last time these two teams faced each other was in last year’s elimination round. It was the Altas who managed to pull off a shocking upset over the Green Archers after making a comeback midway through the game, ending the match with a score of 98-95. Despite their hard-earned win, the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) team did not qualify for the quarterfinals due to the tournament’s quotient rule.
Juneric Baloria spearheaded the UPHSD Altas with a total of 43 points, followed by Danny Dagangon and Scottie Thompson with 15 and 14 points, respectively. On the other hand, the Green Archers were led by Jeron Teng and Arnold Van Opstal with 20 points apiece.
This year, DLSU finished the elimination round with six wins and two losses from the San Beda Red Lions and the CEU Scorpions. Meanwhile, UPHSD was on the verge of sweeping the round, had it not been for the defeat they suffered at the hands of the JRU Heavy Bombers.
With the Southeast Asian Games ongoing, Perpetual Help’s Thompson will not participate in tomorrow’s match. However, UPHSD is still equipped with skilled players like Bright Akhuetie and Prince Eze, two players who have shown great performances during the tournament.
The same goes for the Green Archers as Prince Rivero is still unable to play for the same purpose as Thompson.
Although both teams are missing some members, an exciting rematch is expected. For the DLSU Green Archers, this match will be a chance for redemption, while for the UPHSD Altas, on the other hand, winning this game will prove that the previous victory wasn’t just a fortuitous win.
