After their first victory against the Arellano University Chiefs, the DLSU Green Spikers look to continue their winning ways as they face the DLSU-Dasmariñas Patriots this Wednesday, July 29.
The Green Spikers, who dropped their opening match against the Ateneo Blue Eagles in straight sets, quickly recovered to overpower Arellano in a straight-set match last week, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21. During the game, La Salle relied on well-timed attacks that also forced the Chiefs to commit a number of errors. Arjay Onia and Raymark Woo spearheaded the DLSU attack with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
On the other hand, the Patriots, who have yet to win a match, will look to snag their first victory in their game against the Green Spikers. Their most recent game against Ateneo took a bad turn as they were defeated in three sets, 25-12, 25-17, 25-13. Bryan Paul Castro and Eddimar Kasim led DLSU-D in the loss with seven and six points, respectively.
With the preliminary round almost halfway done, this Wednesday’s game and the ones afterwards will prove to be crucial for both teams. Expect a close match this Wednesday as both squads are leaning close to the line between the teams who will advance to the next round and the teams who won’t.
Expected to lead the charge for the Green Spikers are Woo and Onia, the latter of whom has consistently been the Best Scorer for the team in their past two games. Meanwhile, it is team captain Aldin Bin along with Kasim who will try to lead the Patriots to their first victory in the inaugural Spikers’ Turf tournament.
The Green Spikers and the Patriots are set to square off in the last match of the day, which is at 5 pm in the San Juan Arena. Arellano will look for their first win against College of St. Benilde in the 1 pm game, while NCBA and NU will face each other at 3 pm.
