The DLSU Softbelles fell victim to the defending champions, Adamson University, 4-0, yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field. AdU sustained their hard-hitting onslaught down the stretch as they extended their winning streak to an impressive 65 games. Led by pitcher Analie Benjamin, Adamson held DLSU scoreless in seven innings.
It was a slow start for both teams, as the first four innings saw no team getting on the board due to the precise defensive plays from both La Salle and Adamson. DLSU’s Jamica Arribas caused headaches for the AdU batters with her high-speed pitches coupled with good field defense by the outfielders. The Lady Falcons kept coming close to home, only to be cut short by the DLSU defense each time.
However, during the bottom of the fourth inning, Leslie Bernabe provided the spark for AdU following an impressive hit from Benjamin, resulting in a 1-0 lead in favor of Adamson.
It became a one-sided match following Bernabe’s run as AdU’s batters caused confusion amongst DLSU’s outfielders. Ivy Capistrano, Rieza Calumbres, and Nicho Posadas followed with trips to the home plate during the sixth inning to seal the deal.
Despite the loss, the DLSU Softbelles will look to bounce back against the UP Lady Maroons, who are also coming from a loss against the NU Lady Bulldogs. Both teams will face off on Wednesday, February 10, at 11 am still in the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field. Expect to see defensive adjustments from the DLSU squad with the end of the first round of eliminations right around the corner.
