The LaSallian caught up with past and present Lasallian athletes to find out which Taft-based squad, other than their own, has their support for this second semester. Veteran Lady Spiker Mika Reyes, Lady Paddler Yan Lariba, newcomer Martin Alegre of the Men’s Football Team, Green Archer alumnus Luigi de la Paz, and rookies Betto Orendain and Diego Lozano, of the Green Tennisters and Green Batters, respectively, shared their thoughts on this season’s up and coming teams.
Mika Reyes (Middle Hitter, Lady Spikers)
“Before kasi I used to watch football games since may mga friends ako doon and si coach Hans (Smit), pero I’m looking forward to watching the baseball team, the Green Batters. Minsan lang namin makita since kasabay ng season namin. Gusto ko rin sana sila mapanood.”
Martin Alegre (Defender, DLSU Men’s Football Team)
“In this second semester of UAAP action, I’m looking forward to watching the Lady Spikers and their superstar Mika Reyes. I’ve always been watching and supporting them with my dad, since he used to play volleyball. I hope they can bring home the championship this year!”
Luigi de la Paz (Guard, Green Archer Alumnus, 2010-2013)
“I look forward to watching the Lady Spikers play because their games are always exciting, especially DLSU vs ADMU.”
Diego Lozano (Pitcher, Green Batters)
“I am excited to see and support my friends especially now, since we represent the same school. In general, I’m just excited to see the athletes from the other sports win because I know how hard they work.”
Betto Orendain (Green Tennisters)
“I look forward to watching the Green Batters perform because I’ve got some close friends over there who’ll be in it. Go Unicorns!”
Yan Lariba (Women’s Table Tennis)
“I’m actually excited for all the teams who are now starting their respective campaigns in the second half of UAAP 78. Personally, I am looking forward to watching the football and softball games this season since I haven’t watched any of their games in my whole stay here. Also, I am excited to see how the women’s volleyball team will try to redeem the crown for DLSU since we all know that a lot of them now are in their final playing year. So I’m looking forward as to how they’ll make their own story. Of course my support goes to all the DLSU teams in the second half, even though maybe there are times that I can’t watch some of their games because of my schedule. But surely my prayers go to all of them especially now that we are trying to get back the General Championship.”
