UAAP: Green Spikers seek strong finish against UST in first round finale

After six gutsy battles, the DLSU Green Spikers are looking to conclude the first half of UAAP Season 78 with a victory when they face the UST Growling Tigers at 8 am in the FilOil Arena in San Juan.

The Green Spikers have only managed to win just one game so far this season, and despite going through a four-game slump, the team has remained competitive in each of their matches.

In their most recent game, the Green Spikers lost to the FEU Tamaraws in four sets, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19. Team captain Raymark Woo led La Salle with 17 points on 16 attacks in a losing effort. On FEU’s side, Gregorio Dolor led all scorers with 19 points coming from 15 attacks and four blocks.

La Salle held the advantage in the first set and did not allow the Tamaraws to take the lead. However, in the following sets, the Green Spikers were unable to take control and eventually lost the remaining sets to FEU.

As a team, the Tamaraws came first with 56 attacks, nine blocks, and six aces as opposed to La Salle’s 49 attacks and eight blocks. On the other hand, DLSU incurred 26 unforced errors, while FEU committed 30.

Meanwhile, the Growling Tigers also lost in their most recent match against the Adamson Soaring Falcons in four sets, 25-12, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22. With the loss, they are tied with DLSU at 1-5.

During the game, Manuel Andrei Medina made 11 attacks and four blocks to score 15 points for UST, while Jason Sarabia finished with 10 points. Adamson’s Dave Pletado top-scored with 19 points from 14 attacks, four blocks, and an ace. Michael Sudaria and Bryan Saraza also chipped in 15 and 13 points, respectively.

More than solidifying a spot that would put them on top of the other, both La Salle and UST will be looking to clinch a win that will give them the momentum they would need to put themselves in a more competitive position heading into the tournament’s crucial stages.
