Green, Lady Tracksters seize fourth place

The DLSU Tracksters finished in fourth place in both the Men’s and Women’s divisions, falling short in points of taking third overall. Their performance in the Philsports Track Oval last February 17 to 21 garnered them a total of 10 bronze medals, seven silver medals, and three gold medals.

In total, the Lady Tracksters earned 114 points throughout the five-day competition, while the Green Tracksters got 210 points, 3.5 points behind third-placer UP. As a result, both teams contributed a total of 16 points to the GC tally of La Salle.

On the first day, Adel Valdecanas (Men’s Pole Vault), Kenneth Rafanan (Men’s Shot Put), and Erwin Parcon (Men’s 800-meter dash) finished with bronze medals in each of their respective individual events. For the Lady Tracksters, it was Maureen Schrijvers who won a bronze medal on the first day with her strong performance in the Women’s High Jump event.

The second day proved to be less productive as Michael Del Prado won the only medal for La Salle, but it was also their first silver medal of the tournament because of his performance in the Men’s 200-meter dash, wherein he finished with a time of 22.31 seconds.

On the third day of the competition, La Salle was able to bounce back from their unproductive outcome during the second day. Their first medal that day was a bronze courtesy of Joshua Patalud and his performance in the Men’s Javelin Throw. Later on, Del Prado took his game up a notch by winning La Salle’s first gold medal in the competition in the Men’s 400-meter dash, which he finished with a time of 48.71 seconds. John Rey Moreno then added a silver medal to the tally of the Green Tracksters with his performance in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. Meanwhile, Jewel Manaig won the Lady Tracksters’ second bronze medal in the competition with her performance in the Discus Throw, while the team of Mary Diesto, Judy Ann Rendora, Melissa Escoton, and Elrica Guro won the silver medal in the 4×4 100-meter relay.

AthleticsThe fourth day ended with only three medals won courtesy of Mat Crespo, Del Prado, and Rendora. Crespo won the bronze medal in the Discus Throw, while Del Prado and Rendora got podium finishes in the 400-meter hurdles. The former won the silver medal, while the latter clinched the bronze medal.

For both teams, the last day of the competition was by far the most successful one throughout the tournament. During that day, they won two bronze, three silver, and two gold medals.

The bronze medals were won by Parcon and Escoton in the 1500-meter race and the 100-meter hurdles, respectively. Crespo (Men’s Hammer Throw), Alvin Vergel (Men’s 110-meter hurdles), and Rendora (Women’s 100-meter hurdles) clinched silver medals for their strong performances on the final day of competition. The two gold medals were won later in the day through the performance of Diesto in the Women’s Long Jump and the team performance of the 4×4 400-meter relay team of Del Prado, Jasper Tanhueco, John Kenneth Nodos, and Parcon.
