DLSU Senior High School opens today

The University’s Senior High School (SHS) officially opens today, June 1.

First announced in October 2015 as a means for the University to address the upcoming lean years, the SHS program in DLSU Manila is set to commence with its first run today. From 8 to 12 in the morning, an orientation for SHS students will be held at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium (TYA). Students are advised to bring their Enrollment Assessment Forms to be granted entry into campus.

Parents are invited to attend a separate orientation on June 4, Saturday, from 8:30 to 11:30 in the morning, also at the TYA.

Talks about DLSU’s SHS first circulated in August last year, when newly inducted University President Br. Ray Suplido FSC expressed the administration’s speculations on a drop in freshmen admissions and in teaching load of professors during the lean years (academic years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018). Several town hall meetings were held thereafter to address the prospect of opening a SHS in DLSU’s Manila campus. On October 29, a help desk announcement confirmed the opening of DLSU’s SHS.

Like DLSU’s undergraduate programs, the SHS will also follow a trimestral system. Similarly, there is no prescribed school uniform for the senior high students. There will, however, be a required PE uniform. Students availed of the PE uniforms last Monday, May 30, from 8 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon at the Yuchengco Lobby.

Three academic strands are offered, namely Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM); Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS); and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Professors from DLSU’s undergraduate programs will also be teaching classes at the SHS. DLSU’s Connect-ED program will ensure a seamless transition from senior high to college. The program will also ensure that the curricula from senior high and college programs will be harmonized.

Students who finish their senior high education at DLSU will automatically be granted admission into DLSU’s undergraduate programs if they meet the academic requirements of their chosen course.

SHS students may now access the DLSU website to view their sections by inputting their reference/student number and name.
