Rant and Rave: Live @U27

I saw them live!”

The above quote showcases a myriad of emotions—from unexplainable exhilaration, ecstatic sensations, and wholesome appreciation.

Apparently, one of the trends that causes such feelings nowadays is music festivals, an event whose on-goers are usually fans and lovers of bands, DJs, musicians, or music in general. The vibe of jumping up and down, singing along with the crowd, and coming across people who have a different feel altogether, is inexplicable. At some point, something crawls up your spine because the song is relatable, or the atmosphere makes you forget about everything else.  Your screams are your pure energy and your presence is your memory. When such an event comes to a close, the word most people would use to describe it is: Solid.

While all these may seem like something to look forward to, factors such as lack of access, insufficient funds, or time constraints affect people’s ability to be part of the scene. Fortunately, innovation has been able to satiate the desires of today’s generation—streaming applications.

Streaming applications provide up-to-date songs and movies at a day-to-day pace. They are sorted by date, relevance, or genre, and people can make their own lists.  For the person who easily wants to open anything he feels like watching or listening to, then Spotify and Netflix is key. If there’s anything missing in these applications though, it is the lack of live sets.

That is, until Live @U27 came into the picture.

TV 100 recently launched their new app called Live @U27 at Unit 27 Bar +Café last September 8. Live @U27 is a downloadable music festival in your hands and is available through Google Play. It features eight bands, namely Jensen & the Flips, Brisom, Conscious and the Goodness, Sixx, Ach, One Click Straight, Sud, and Moonwlk for its first volume.

At first try, Live @U27 seemed to be similar to the likes of Spotify, Shazam, and Deezer, but what made it unique in its own is the fact that it gives the listener the exact tune of a live performance. However, after tinkering with the app, it’s easy to point out that it is still different from the actual experience, such as the fine line between seeing the actual bands live and just hearing them. Nevertheless, Live @U27 doesn’t just give you a sneak peek as most apps do, but it gives you the whole performance, thus making the user experience the set as if they are actually there.

For now, there are only a few songs which can be streamed.  One or two songs from each artist featured were added to the first volume. This limited library may seem like a disadvantage, but this is a start-up application, after all.

Furthermore, the app is easy to use and navigation is user-friendly. Anything can be easily found for browsing in sorted sections, and its interface is pleasing to the eyes as its content is pleasing to the ears.

All in all, the app lives up to its purpose: To bring live performances closer to home. Forget about the annoying buffering time and the off-tune, unsynchronized, bad quality sounds from the usual music streaming apps. When the notion of almost everything being at reach with just a push or a press of a button arises, Live@U27 is the perfect epitome.

To all music enthusiasts and struggling fan boys and fan girls, this is the app for you. This is not a drill nor is this a compromise, this is something to add to your must-haves as there are plenty of ways to enjoy the things we love.

Living for the moment does not always mean being in the moment.  Thanks to Live @U27, we can learn to appreciate the simple joys in life, because once we do, we can make great things out of them. Hence, practical innovations—things that can make you applaud without even witnessing the actuality.

With Live @U27, “I heard them live!” isn’t far from “I saw them live!”
