After a disappointing opening day, the DLSU Lady Batters were able to bounce back and win their first game of the season against the UE Lady Warriors, 5-4, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field.
It was a close affair that saw both teams take the lead at different points of the game. Two late runs from La Salle, however, proved to be the difference in the game.
Early on, the Lady Batters were able to score two runs off the bat to immediately take the lead. UE’s Salvador, though, hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two, in the bottom half of the first inning. It was a towering shot that got the attention of everyone in attendance.
Salvador was again in the middle of it all when UE took the lead, 3-2, after she crossed home in the fourth inning. La Salle had a chance to tie the game after a hit from Benson, but she was thrown out at second base to stop the DLSU rally.
In the top of the fifth inning, though, Judie Ann Ramos hit a single to bring home the team’s leadoff hitter, Nica Velasco, that tied the game at three.
Entering the seventh inning still tied, errors from UE’s defense allowed two runs to score for DLSU. While the Lady Warriors were able to threaten in the bottom half, they were only able to get one more run across the plate as the Green and White held on for the victory.
This was an important victory for the Lady Batters as they could not afford to drop their record to 0-2 with the defending champions next on their schedule.
“Maniwala lang kaming kaya naming manalo at lumaban hangang huli, lalabas ang gusto naming mangyari,” said captain Judie Ann Ramos.
(If we believe that we can win and fight till the end, we will get the outcome we want.)
La Salle will be going for their second straight victory on Monday, as they face the AdU Lady Falcons, at the same venue.
