The DLSU Lady Batters suffered their second loss of the season against the defending champions, AdU Lady Falcons, yesterday via mercy rule, 10-3, ending the game in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
The match started with a Mercy Arroyo triple in the first inning but inconsistent play soon followed for the losing team. On the other hand, AdU showcased its championship talent early through its immediate offense as they scored four runs in the first inning alone, which included a homerun by Rusia, to give the seven-time defending champions an early advantage.
In the third inning, Raisa Joseph led off with an infield single. While two consecutive outs followed, Jamica Arribas hit a double to right field to bring Joseph home. With Badeth Benson relieving Lalaine Cunanan from pitching, DLSU was able to hold their opponents from scoring any further runs, finishing the inning with a score of 6-1, in favor of Adamson.
The Lady Falcons did, however, continue to score runs in the fourth inning.
“Maguumpisa muna sa pitching, kung sino yung start namin, tapos kung sino reliever, tapos yung depensa namin sa outfield,” mentioned Coach Joseph Orillana on the things the team needs to work on.
(It starts with pitching, whoever starts and then whoever relieves, and then our outfield defense)
On the other hand, the team from Taft gained back the momentum in the fifth inning as Arisa Miranda hit a drive down the third base line, giving her a double. Nikki Fajardo’s grounder then drove her teammate in and gave her an RBI. Likewise, Fajardo was able to reach home off a hit by Arribas to the outfield, making it her second RBI of the day.
However, another run was scored by the competitors as Cantor hit an inside the park homerun to finish the game, 10-3.
“Meron kaming plano for second round pagkanaharap na sila, na ito yung taong gagamitin namin and same hitting,” added Orillana.
(We have a plan for the second round when we face them again like who we’re going to use)
Despite the setback, the Lady Batters hope to get back in the win column as they next face National University on February 8, 9 am, at the same venue.
