In their sixth outing of the season, the DLSU Lady Batters struggled to find a rhythm as they were shut out against the UST Growling Tigresses, 7-0, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field.
The opening inning found DLSU and UST tied as both teams struggled to score. The Growling Tigresses had opportunities to score runs, but good defense from the Lady Batters did not allow them to capitalize.
Going into the second inning, UST broke the tie with two runs, allowing them to take the lead. Jessie Tanya Belaño hit a solid single which enabled Ricky Mae Latican to run home. Christine Palma’s base hit then allowed Angel Tonquin to score the second run.
UST continued the pressure as the Lady Batters conceded another two runs in the third inning. Guevarra and Jumuad came around to score after Hannah Dela Torre’s RBI double.
“Siguro yung kailangan i-improve ay yung palo namin, kasi alam naman namin na may ilalabas kami pero hindi namin naipapakita.”
(Maybe we can improve on our hitting, because we know that we have something to show but were not able to do so.)
In the fourth inning, Badeth Benson relieved Jamica Arribas, who finished with two strikeouts. La Salle, however, continued to falter on offense as its bats remained silent. UST would continue to score to finish the game with seven runs.
“Yung isa pa namin na kailangan i-improve is yung trust sa sarili. Kasi kapag may trust ka sa sarili mo, yun, kaya namin ipalabas kung ano yung kakayahan namin.”
(Another thing we need to improve on is our self-belief because if we have trust in ourselves, then we can bring out our potential.)
Concluding the first round with a 2-4 win loss record, the Lady Batters are in second to last place and are hoping to recover and improve their play once the second round ensues.
As of press time, the schedule of the second round has not been released.
