Coming off a win against the AdMU Lady Eagles, the DLSU Lady Batters lost a heavily contested affair, 1-0, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond. UST scored the game’s only run in the final inning.
AdU starting pitcher Antolihao was stellar as she went the distance, giving up just four hits and striking out nine. DLSU’s Jamica Arribas was equally as good, pitching seven innings, allowing only four hits and one run.
Early on, both teams showcased their defensive prowess after multiple attempts to score runs. Numerous openings were created by DLSU during the first to fourth innings, but UST was on the same page defensively. The Tigresses also had a multitude of chances early but were unable to string together a rally.
In the latter stages of the game, pitching and defense continued to shine. The sixth inning set the offensive flow for the Lady Batters as both Miranda and Velasco hit balls through the UST defense. A long hit to right field from Arribas almost got her the RBI single, but UST’s defense got the ball in the nick of time to keep the game scoreless.
The final inning found the Golden Tigresses in a sweet spot. Consecutive hits from Hernandez and Guevarra allowed them to control their destiny in the late game. The final play of the game sealed the deal as Belano’s RBI single gave UST the walkoff victory.
a Salle now holds a 4-6 record and is scheduled to play next against the NU Lady Bulldogs on Monday, February 26, at the same venue.
