UAAP: Lady Batters build early lead, blitz past Lady Eagles, 8-1

With the earlier wins against the UP Lady Maroons and UE Lady Warriors set in stone, the DLSU Lady Batters are on a hot streak as they trounced the ADMU Lady Eagles, 8-1, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond.

The first inning set the pace of the game for the Lady Batters. Crafty offense from the team combined with defensive lapses from the Lady Eagles allowed the Lasallians a four-point lead. The next inning, on the other hand, brought the team to an offensive drought. The relentless defense from ADMU prevented the Lady Batters from scoring that period.

The third inning saw no action as both teams relied on their defense to battle it out. Early exits and near misses were evident throughout the period. The same could not be said in the fourth inning as DLSU’s Chinny Ejar hit the home base from Nica Velasco’s sacrifice play.

Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth inning behind consistent defense on all ends of the field. Jamica Arribas was close to home but was late to the party when ADMU’s Lacson grabbed Kiana Juan’s shot at the middle to close out the offensive run. But their defensive momentum could not be translated offensively as Juan strikes out the opposing to end the inning.

The final offensive acts sealed the game for the Lady Batters. During the sixth inning, Mercy Arroyo hit it to the middle to bring Velasco home. A familiar play was done when Arribas slammed a long left to bring home Arroyo. In the final inning of the game, Miranda’s shot to the center allowed Juan to escape the defense for the final point.

After the game, head coach Jasper Cabrera had nothing but praise for the team. He stated that the hot start of the season might just be their key to long lasting success. “Maganda start namin. Nakuha namin yung UE, UP, tapos ngayon Ateneo para mabuo lalo loob nila, magkaroon ng kompyansa. At nakikita na namin yung nag c-click yung batting namin.

(We had a good start. We grabbed wins against UE, UP, and even Ateneo to boost their will, and confidence. And as a team, we can see our batting click.)

The action continues as the DLSU Lady Batters will face off against the UST Golden Tigresses on Saturday, February 23, at 11am at at the same venue.
