UAAP: Bloodlusted Golden Tigresses hold lead, pounce Lady Batters, 7-0

Morning sun and blue skies, a beautiful day was not enough for the DLSU Lady Batters as they succumbed to the UST Tigresses, 7-0, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond. The last time both of these teams faced each other was almost a year ago where the Tigresses escaped with a walk-off win, 1-0.

The first frame of the fixture saw the Lady Batters succumb to the defensive Tigresses. DLSU’s Jamica Arribas made a run to set up the offensive tempo but it was too late as fellow teammate Kiana Juan’s hit was caught just in time. It was a different ball game for the Golden Tigresses as Trisha Tiozon’s superb triple RBI combined with Lealyn Guevarra’s RBI gave them a sizeable lead.

The second inning was a different story. The Lady Batters covered all bases and kept the offense running. But the Tigresses’ clutch defense kept them from scoring any runs. On the other hand, UST was put on chokehold as the Green-and-White made easy work of their offense.

The third inning was not idealistic for the team. Arribas’ hit to the middle was abruptly stopped and sent UST back at bat. The Golden Tigresses were eager to make a run but Bianca Hernandez’ hit was easily caught—bringing them back to defense.

The Lasallian offensive cold streak continued in the fourth inning. Badeth Benson and Chinny Ejar were able to cover bases behind the España-based squad’s defensive lapses. But it was short lived when UST’s Arisa Miranda’s hit was caught in the nick of time—bringing the Tigresses back at bat. Breaking the ice, Golden Tigress Charlotte Sales hit a long mid to score a triple RBI, extending their lead.

The final inning did not go accordingly for the Lady Batters’ way. Lockdown defense from the opposing side made easy work of the Lasallian offense, ending the game abruptly via mercy rule.

The Taft-based squad will look to bounce back in their matchup against the NU Lady Bulldogs on Monday, February 25 at 9 am in the same venue.
