In their fifth game in the UAAP Season 81, the DLSU Lady Batters suffered defeat against the NU Lady Bulldogs, 4-5, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field. The Lady Batters fall into the team standings with a 3-2 win-loss record.
Hot start and defense heavy
The Lady Batters started off hot in the first inning as Kiana Juan hit one to bring Mercy Arroyo home and draw the first blood in the match. They were able to hold the lead in the first two innings as their impeccable defense gave a difficult time for the Lady Bulldogs to score a run.
Lady Bulldogs’ Lorga managed to hit a fly ball to be able to send teammate Tarroza home. The defense of the Lady Batters were tested throughout the fourth and fifth inning as the Lady Bulldogs kept pounding on them, giving them the lead at 1-4. However, the Lady Batters weren’t quite done yet. Inthe next inning, Chinny Ejar swung the ball to allow Badeth Benson to run home, cutting the lead of NU at 2-4.
Just like diesel
The seventh inning was a testament that the Lady Batters were just warming up. Team captain Jamica Arribas was able to deliver two of her teammates home, cutting the lead and tying the match at 4-4 and forcing an extension.
However, the Lady Batters were no match against the Lady Bulldogs as they succumbed in the latter part of the eighth inning as the Lady Batters had a passed ball, handing the match to NU at 4-5.
Plans for upcoming games
“We’re focusing on the batting talaga kasi puro nanggigil ‘yung mga players at tsaka, puro kabig. ‘Yan ang babaguhin namin,” head coach Jasper Cabrera shared when asked what their game plan for the next game would be.
(We’re focusing on the batting because our players are agitated, that’s what we’ll be changing.)
“Okay ‘yung defense namin even if may errors kami pero ‘yung hitting namin kailangan namin mag add pa,” team captain Arribas agreed with her coach when asked what could be improved come the next game.
(Our defense was okay even if we had errors. However, our hitting is something we should add on.)
The Lady Batters will face the defending champions, the Adamson Lady Falcons, on Saturday, March 2, at the same venue.
