The DLSU Lady Batters fell short against the leading Adamson Lady Falcons who displayed their championship prowess, 4-1, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond. Due to the defeat, the Green-and-White now holds a 7-4 win-loss record, standing at the third of the rankings. On the other end, the Adamson Lady Falcons continue to top the standings with an improved 10-1 win-loss record.
Missed opportunities
The first two innings went scoreless as both teams were unable to seize home runs. In the third inning, the duo of Rosell Dela Rosa and Arisa Miranda were able to hit at the middle but the opposing defense immediately responded. For the first point of the match, Adamson’s MJ Maguad gave a run batted in (RBI) which allowed Angelu Gabriel to reach home run. The fourth inning showed chances of scoring for DLSU with multiple hits, although, the team failed to further convert these chances. Lady Falcon Remie Herrero added another point for her squad as she assisted Ariane Vallestero to home base with an RBI. La Salle’s Kiana Juan had significant pitches which led to the outs of Adamson’s batters to close out the fifth inning. The team from Taft scored their initial point in the sixth inning with a Gladelyn Alipato RBI to bring Arribas home. However, because of a good run and a crucial fumble by the Lady Batters’ defense, the Lady Falcons clinched two more points to close out the game.
Preparation and positivity
Despite the loss, head coach Jasper Cabrera is proud of the valiant effort put up by his players. “Ngayong Adamson, masaya na kami, maganda naman nilaro ng mga bata eh,” he shared. Some of the things that helped keep the game close versus the defending champions were their scouting and preparations beforehand. “Na-check din namin yung weakness nila kasi nag-kanya kanya kami na scout. Ngayon, naka-five hits lang sila tapos five hits din kami,” coach Jasper emphasized.
(Playing against Adamson today, we are already happy because we were able to play a decent game.)
(We were able to check their weaknesses because of our individual scouting. With that, they had five hits so we had five hits too.)
“Ang gusto ko lang sa kanila ay iwasan lang namin ang errors kasi every game meron talaga kaming errors kaya kapag i-uphold lang namin yun at mananalo kami,” the head coach mentioned as they look ahead of their final matchup in the second round. Although La Salle is assured of a Final Four spot, he wants to encourage his unit to aim for the top two seat in the standings and to remain focused ahead of the playoffs.
(What I want is for our team to lessen our errors because we have these every game. If we are able to uphold that kind of outing, then we will be able to win more.)
The team from Taft will look to close out the second round on a winning note against the UST Growling Tigresses on Monday, March 18, at 1 pm in the same venue.
