Earlier today, the winning streak of the DLSU Lady Spikers was halted as the UP Lady Maroons lorded over the girls in straight sets, 25-16, 26-24, 25-19, at the Ynares Center Antipolo. With the loss, the team from Taft sports a 5-3 win-loss standing, while the team from Diliman improved to a 5-3 record.
Lady Maroon and skipper Dianna Carlos bested all players, tallying 13 points on 13 attacks. In the losing effort, Lady Spiker and team captain Desiree Cheng tallied 11 points on eight attacks, two service aces, and a block.
Error prone match
The Lasallians gave away a total of 37 errors against the Lady Maroons’ 23.
The Katipunan-based squad barely attacked in the first set as the team from Taft gave away multiple attack and service errors. Rookie Des Clemente tried to uplift the team’s spirit as she was the main source of offense in the first set. A reception error from Cheng gave the first set of the match to UP, 25-16.
A glimpse of hope was showcased by the Lady Spikers in the second set as the efforts of Cheng, Jolina Dela Cruz, and Marrione Alba gave an early lead at 3-0. However, a momentum breaker in the form of Alba’s service error and Dela Cruz’s attack error gave UP a run to tie the set at 3-all. From there, the Green-and-White continued to fight for the lead. However, their service errors spelled the difference. A hit from Jessma Ramos gave the second set to the Lady Maroons, 26-24.
Errors continued to haunt DLSU as they entered the third set. Miscommunications from the Lady Spikers gave the Lady Maroons a run to catch up and lead the third set. An off the block hit coming from Isa Molde gave the third set and the match to the Diliman-based squad, 25-19.
Bouncing back
“Siguro po yung service errors po namin, siguro yun din po yung dahilan kaya medyo naging off,” rookie Dela Cruz shared.
(I guess it’s our service errors, I also think that it’s because of our service errors that’s why we were off.)
Head coach Ramil De Jesus shared the same sentiment with his player. “Unang-una, mag-serve kami buong practice, kasi ayun ang may problema,” he emphasized when asked what adjustments his team will be doing for the next games.
(First of all, we’ll be serving the whole practice because that’s the problem.)
The DLSU Lady Spikers will try to bounce back on Wednesday, March 27, as they go against the NU Lady Bulldogs, at 4 pm at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
