The fight against COVID-19 is not a phenomena only our health professionals and front liners must face. We are also given a huge responsibility to stay at home and practice social distancing as a way of preventing the virus, and while it is an important act, some of us feel helpless that we couldn’t go out there and do something—but what if, from the comforts of our home, we could?
The alumni groups of the DLSU Culture and Arts Office (CAO) have come together to raise funds for street dwellers affected by the enhanced community quarantine in Manila and for medical front liners battling the disease in the service of our country. We encourage anyone who is able to virtually step out—even in small steps—of our comfort zones and join us in this drive.
Every PHP 50,000 worth of funds accumulated from the drive will be donated to selected beneficiaries supporting our target audience starting with Divine Word Missionaries (SVD)’s KALINGA program, currently facilitating the housing of 79 (and counting) street dwellers inside De La Salle University’s Enrique Razon Sports Center. We have also identified our next beneficiary from Cebu City with the help of Sacred Heart School – Hijas de Jesus.
Any amount that you can spare will help. To some, small efforts like staying at home and distancing ourselves from others is actually a huge factor to flatten the COVID-19 curve—and in that same vein, small donations made by a lot of people will eventually result into a big fund that will help those who need it.
Let’s spread the word online! Instructions for monetary donations are at fb.me/CAOagainstCOVID. You may also reach out via SMS at +63 917 117 0621.
