MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Alyansang Tapat sa Lasallista, a political organization from De La Salle University, will be holding an event called Sibol: Pagsulong sa Pag-asa, a youth-led initiative that aims to raise funds and donations through an online concert gig that will showcase OPM bands and Lasallian students. The project also intends to shed light on the critical issues of the present time by spreading awareness and positivity.
As the number of cases rises and with the implementation of community quarantine measures in different parts of the country, members of vulnerable sectors continue to fight for survival day by day. The medical community has continued its pleas for the provision of more personal protective equipment (PPEs) as 6,375 healthcare workers have tested positive for the virus. Teachers and students alike face issues concerning the implementation of online classes. While lower cases of child abuse were recorded, watchdogs group warn the possibility of victims not being able to report to authorities due to quarantine measures.
“We felt that it is part of our duty to unite everyone to reach out to those in need. Our aim is simple, to alleviate the struggles of those who are suffering during this pandemic”, says Sibol project heads Bianca Lazo and Myca Sapnu.
The donations and proceeds from the concert will go to frontliners from public hospitals, to students and teachers from public schools, and to children who are victims of abuse due to the enhanced community quarantine.
The initial line-up of OPM artists include alternative rock band Mayonnaise, singer and song-writer Johnoy Danao, and promising indie acts like Pixie Labrador, Martti Franca, Banna Harbera, Carousel Casualties, and Ysanygo. Other Lasallian artists are expected to perform as well.
The event will be open to the public and will be streamed live at 6:00 PM PST on September 11 and 18 on the Facebook page of Tapat. It will run for 2 hours and will be accessible to more than 10,000 audiences.
