The Good Governance Conference (GoodGovCon) 2020, one of the biggest online gatherings of good governance advocates in the country, will commence on November 21 via Zoom.
With the theme “Mabuting Pamamahala, Para sa Bayan,” the weeklong conference will gather young leaders across the country in helping the youth to rediscover the importance of good governance and active youth participation in times of crisis.
The conference will be organized by good governance advocacy group GoodGov PH.
“To be in a conference together with people who all advocate for good governance made me realize that it is possible for us to achieve a better country with future competent leaders who think that the voices of the youth matter.” said Dexter Yang, Executive Director of GoodGov PH.
With speakers from government, the private sector, and civil society organizations, the delegates will tackle governance issues through mentorship sessions that will cover topics such as civic engagement, lobbying, and direct participation in local governance concerning four key sectors: education, health, economy, and environment.
Kabataan Party-list Representative Sarah Elago, IBON Foundation executive director Sonny Africa, Greenpeace Southeast Asia executive director Yeb Saño, will be speaking at the conference.
GoodGovCon 2020 includes plenary discussions led by young professionals and experienced youth leaders in the concepts of participatory democracy, accountability and transparency, human rights, and rule of law.
We can expect to see initiatives for effective strategies for advocacies, through lobbying people-oriented causes and policies, in the new normal and lastly, increase in the youth participation in fostering good governance during the new normal.” said Carl Lumberio, Co-Project Director of GoodGovCon 2020.
Registration is free and open to all youth leaders ages 18-30. Registration process and event details can be found in bit.ly/GoodGovCon2020 or visit the GoodGovCon Facebook page at facebook.com/GoodGovCon.
