DLSU ENGLICOM proudly presents Transcend: Engage Amidst the Digital Age
“Transcend: Engage Amidst the Digital Age” is a flagship event held by De La Salle University Manila’s Filipino-Chinese socio-civic organization, ENGLICOM. The event aims to promote initiative, innovation, and productivity that features esteemed speakers from the Arts, Business, and Science & Technology fields culminating in a business pitch competition.
Four (4) activities will be held namely: (1) Transcend: The Art of Finding Your Niche, (2) Transcend: The Business of Finding Strategies That Work, (3) Transcend: The Science of Moving Forward to Success and (4) Business Pitch Competition.

The goal of the event is to educate the audience about the pandemic to how the fields of arts, business, and science & technology, and how one can engage through initiative, innovation, and productivity. With this, 3 speakers will be sharing their experience on how they were able to take initiative, become innovative and productive during COVID-19, and share their journey on how they became successful in their fields and how they are coping with the pandemic.
(1) Sharlene Yap, the speaker for “Transcend: The Art of Finding Your Niche”, is taking up BS Computer Science at UP Diliman. She is a freelance illustrator, animator, and a Youtuber who will share her knowledge as a content creator while being in a pandemic.
(2) Janina Almirañez, who will be sharing with us her various work experiences in the field of business through the webinar, “Transcend: The Business of Finding Strategies That Work” She took up AB Psychology and graduated from De La Salle University and is a Market Development Officer – Segment Marketing at Pru Life UK.
(3) Kathleen B. Aviso, a multi-awarded researcher in the field of science who will share her knowledge through the webinar “Transcend: The Science of Moving Forward to Success”, has a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from De La Salle University. She is currently a university fellow and a Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department of De La Salle University.
To end with a bang, the event will be having its first-ever online Business Pitch Competition. An opportunity for young aspiring entrepreneurs inside De La Salle University to showcase their business ideas in response to a pitch premise. A one-page pitch will be submitted and narrowed by 3 judges to 5 finalists who will be given the opportunity to defend their business pitch. The competition will be held on the 4th of September 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM in the afternoon. The top three teams are to receive the respective cash prizes of P8,000, P5,000, and P3,000.
