BEAUTY IS POWER. And in the global arena, the impact of pageantries go beyond mere sashes and crowns—they hold a crucial space in redefining and empowering states and people alike towards unity, diversity, and advocacy.
This 22nd of April 2022, from 3:30 pm to 6 pm, the Organization for American Studies (AMSTUD), in partnership with the European Studies Association (ESA), brings Lasallians to the confidently beautiful world of pageantry and diplomacy with the event entitled “Beauty Diplomacy: Embodying Philippine Soft Power.” This webinar event will discuss the role of beauty pageants in strengthening public diplomacy and soft power policy. It also aims to provide an avenue for students, academics, and pageant fans alike to look into the diverse world of pageantry and its capabilities for Filipino soft power.
More than just entertainment, “Beauty Diplomacy: Embodying Philippine Soft Power” will showcase pageantry as an emerging sphere for power and international influence – one that highlights not only Filipino beauty but also the Philippines’ culture, values, and aspirations.
The event will feature formerly crowned beauty queens who have competed in various international beauty pageants to highlight their experiences and insights as empowered Filipinas in the international scene. These include Ms. Eva Psychee Patalinjug, former Binibining Pilipinas Grand International Philippines 2018; Ms. Jamie Herrell, Miss Philippines Earth 2014 and Miss Earth 2014; and Ms. Tatyana Alexi Austria, Miss Eco Teen International 2021 1st runner-up. Finally, H.E. Jesus Gary Dimongo, Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand, Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Samoa and Tonga from the Department of Foreign Affairs will synthesize and bridge the gap between diplomacy and beauty in the 21st century.
