The DLSU Lady Batters dropped their first game of the UAAP Season 85 Softball tournament to the UP Fighting Maroons, 8-0, earlier today, February 18, at the UP Diliman Baseball Field.
Failing to find their footing
Neither team managed to score in the first inning, with both sides struggling to get on base. After another scoreless inning for the team from Taft, the Fighting Maroons managed to draw first blood and put the side from Diliman up, 1-0. DLSU slowly faltered after consecutive hits from UP, resulting in the scoreboard reading 2-0 at the end of the second inning.
The Green and White’s offensive hitches continued in the third inning, staying scoreless but still managing to keep their counterparts at bay. Even after the bottom of the inning, the score remained untouched at 2-0. In the fourth inning, La Salle’s scoring drought continued, allowing UP to break the game open with six points, including two straight runs to close the inning with a whopping 8-0 lead.
The game drew to an early close after a scoreless top at the fourth inning cost the Lady Batters their first game of the season via the mercy rule.
The DLSU Lady Batters will go against the AdU Soaring Falcons in their next match on Tuesday, February 21, at 2 pm at the same venue as they look to pick up their first win of the season.
