Exemplary educators spotlighted during 12th Annual Pillar of Lasallian Educators Excellence Awards

Lasallian educators were recognized for their works in the academe and the general community in the 12th Annual Pillar of Lasallian Educators Excellence Awards.

As part of Lasallian Mentors’ Week, several  Lasallian educators have been celebrated for their efforts in teaching, research, and community engagement in the 12th Annual Pillar of Lasallian Educators Excellence Awards last January 26 at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium. The event also coincided with the anniversary of the translation of St. John Baptist de La Salle’s relic from Belgium to Rome. 

Nine educators in total have been nominated for the event’s four main awards, which were named after Lasallian saints who exemplified their excellence in various fields during their lifetime. 

Dr. David Michael San Juan of the Department of Filipino received the St. Miguel Febres Cordero Pillar of Lasallian Excellence Award in Community Engagement. Dr. Lawrence Belo of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Dr. Agnes Brazal of the Department of Theology and Religious Education also received nominations for the award.

Dr. Aileen Orbecido of the Department of Chemical Engineering was presented the St. Miguel Febres Cordero Pillar of Lasallian Excellence Award in Research, with Dr. David Peñaloza Jr. of the Department of Chemistry also being nominated for the same award.

Dr. Roger Luis Uy of the Department of Computer Technology accepted the St. Benilde Romancon Pillar of Lasallian Excellence Award in Teaching. Other nominees for the award were Dr. Alvin Chua of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Raymond Allan Vergara of the Department of Marketing and Advertising. 

The coveted St. Jean Baptiste de La Salle Pillar of Excellence Award—awarded to educators who exemplified all three aspects of Lasallian excellence—was awarded to Dr. Divina Amalin of the Department of Biology. 

Departments in the University were also given recognition for their productivity in research. The Department of International Studies and the Department of Psychology received distinctions for their research efforts in the Business and Social Sciences cluster. For the Humanities and Education cluster, the Department of Filipino and the Department of Theology and Religious Education were recognized. The Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Management and the Department of Biology stood out in the Science and Technology cluster. 

Sa Tuwing Ikaw ay Tahimik: Mga Tula by Vijae Alquisola and Ang Mabuting Kita: Mga Isyu ng Etika sa Negosyo by Dr. Napoleon Mabaquiao Jr. were given distinctions as Outstanding Book/Monograph in Filipino. Ang Mindanao sa Hiraya ni Ferdinand Blumentritt: Mga Piling Historikal at Etnograpikal na Sanaysay by Dr. Feorilo Demetrio III and Bakit Dapat Manaliksik sa Filipino Ang Mga Filipino: Kritik sa Scopus-sentrismo ng mga Unibersidad at Ahensiyang Pang-Edukasyon at/o Pampananaliksik sa Pilipinas by Dr. David San Juan received accolades for Outstanding Published Filipino Translation (Book) and Outstanding Published Scholarly Article in Filipino, respectively. 

Educators who were promoted, got their graduate and postgraduate degrees, and died during Academic Year 2022-2023 were also honored in the awarding ceremony. Likewise, the Council of Student Organizations recognized various nominees for the Students’ Choice for Teachers and Faculty Advisers. The Gawad Dangal Lasalyano also awarded educators from the DLSU Integrated School.
