Writer’s Recap: Lasallian literary, visual artists given recognition in LITAW VISAW 2024

Lasallian student artists from across the nation were awarded in this year’s iteration of the annual LITAW-VISAW.

Hindi madali gumawa lang nang gawa at ialay ang sining sa madlang Pilipino,” Student Media Coordinator Jeanne Marie Phyllis Tan emphasized to open the 39th DLSU Annual Literary Awards (LITAW) and 14th Visual Arts Awards (VISAW) last Friday, March 22, at the Natividad Fajardo-Rosario Gonzalez Auditorium, Br. Andrew Gonzalez Hall. Co-presented by the Malate Literary Folio and the Student Media Office, the awarding ceremony recognizes literary and visual artists from all De La Salle Philippines schools nationwide.

(It’s not easy creating art dedicated to the Filipino masses.)

Among the 147 submissions—66 of which were for written and 81 for graphical—only 34 were conferred the reputable accolades.

Malate Literary Folio Faculty Consultant Ina Abuan also acknowledged the support of the parents for the winners’ passion. She went on to proclaim that art is not to explore a world outside our own; instead, it is to see the “expression of our humanity.” “The magic of art does not solely lie in the infiniteness of our imagination, but it also lies in our ability to embrace the finiteness of our creativity,” she opined.

Nathan Aguirre, managing editor of Malate Literary Folio and head organizer for this year’s LITAW VISAW, wanted the awarding ceremony to “empower…and remind…that there is a space in DLSU that…values our artists.”
