THE BEDAN HERALD proudly announces the return of [M]ulat, its highly anticipated interschool journalism forum. It will happen on Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. in the Rosendo Herrera Hall, SBCA. Senior high school and college students are invited to attend the event, which will gather various student publications from different schools.
With the event’s primary tagline, “Mulat na Manunulat,” this year’s forum centers on student journalists’ crucial role in the 2025 Elections. Issues such as corruption, the West Philippine Sea, and other national challenges this soon-to-be-held election promises have to be addressed by the journalists so that the public will make the right choices at the polling booths.
The forum will also look into how new technologies such as deepfakes, artificial intelligence, and social media have increasingly been used by politicians in campaigns, calling on student journalists to stay alert to digital manipulation.
“I envision it to be a catalyst event that will encourage campus journalists to be critical in our coverage of this upcoming midterm elections,” said Juan Miguel Diaz (III-BSLM), [M]ulat’s project head and TBH’s incumbent Associate Editor, as he explained his vision for the forum.
Diaz also stressed the role of student journalists, “being campus journalists we carry the responsibility of not only covering school events but also, cover the local elections in our respective communities.”
The forum will feature distinguished guest speakers, including Bonz Magsambol, a multimedia reporter for Rappler who previously served with Alto Broadcasting System and Chronicle Broadcasting Network (ABS-CBN)’s Investigative and Research Group. Joining him is Ma. Rheanna F. Tuazon, a former GMA News program researcher who is now a full-time faculty member and publication adviser of The Pioneer at the Angeles University Foundation (AUF).
Also speaking is Jacque Manabat, a multiplatform journalist with 17 years of experience at ABS-CBN. She is also known for her pioneering work using TikTok for news reporting. Lastly, a fourth speaker is expected to join the panel but is yet to be announced.
As one of the executive editors, Diaz expressed his desire for continued advocacy for press freedom and fair elections, “From our newsrooms to the streets, may our fight for genuine campus freedom continue, as we advocate for a fair and clean 2025 elections… Sumulong, sumulat, manindigan at magmulat!”
While sponsors and partners for the event are yet to be announced, [M]ulat is set to be a must-attend forum for student journalists committed to understanding their role in shaping the country’s future.
