Blood shortages remain a critical issue in the Philippines, with over 120,000 blood bags needed annually for emergencies, surgeries, and chronic illnesses. In response, the De La Salle University – Red Cross Youth Council (DLSU-RCYC), in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross – Manila Chapter, will host Be a Lifeline: Blood Drive 2024. This life-saving initiative will run from November 19 to 22, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at the Cave Grounds, Yuchengco Hall, De La Salle University. With every blood donation capable of saving up to three lives, the event aims to address the growing demand for accessible blood supplies while fostering a spirit of community action.
Led by DLSU-RCYC’s Blood Network Program Director Regina Victoria T. Gorospe and Team Leader Ry G. Pagunuran, the blood drive ensures a safe and meaningful experience for all donors. Licensed professionals from the Philippine Red Cross will oversee the donation process, guaranteeing adherence to the highest safety standards. Beyond collecting donations, the event will also feature free health screenings and awareness campaigns on the importance of blood donation and its role in addressing critical shortages. These efforts aim to educate participants and empower them to take part in sustaining the nation’s blood supply and supporting the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross.
Delays in accessing blood can be life-threatening for patients in need of urgent care. By participating in Be a Lifeline: Blood Drive 2024, students, faculty, staff, and members of the community can directly contribute to saving lives. Join us and help turn compassion into action—together, we can be the lifeline our community needs.
