Between April 23 and 25 of 2026, the halls of De La Salle University will once again be the stage of international relations, discussions, and decisive measures. The 12th session of De La Salle Model United Nations (DLSMUN) Conference is brought under the convincing theme, “Rising Voices, One World: Catalyzing Global Change through United Diplomacy and Service”. In this type of conference, delegates are challenged to go beyond rhetoric and into effective cooperation, where all speeches are catalysts, all talks are turning points, and all decisions signify a sense of joint accountability in an ever more connected world. This year, it is organized by Secretary-General Eliza Janel L. Tan (II-BSMSCHE), Deputy Secretary-General-Internals Jasper Chua (II-BSCS-ST), Raine Beatrx Cuvin (III-AB-IS), and Director-General Kurt Adrian Taiño (II-AB-PLS)

Model United Nations is a sophisticated academic simulation where the next generation of global leaders steps into the shoes of diplomats to navigate the complexities of international governance. Within these simulated chambers, participants—known as delegates—represent the interests of diverse nations, engaging in rigorous debate and collaborative negotiation to address the world’s most pressing dilemmas. Far from a mere exercise in public speaking, it is a masterclass in empathy and strategic consensus-building, balancing national priorities with the collective good, crafting resolutions that reflect the delicate equilibrium of global power. It serves as a crucible for leadership, where the abstract principles of the UN Charter are transformed into tangible action through the power of collective discourse.
The committees in this year’s conference are pivotal, and the Press Corps Committee is a historic first. This is a simulation that will replicate the actual dynamics of the international media. The Press Corps will exist together with the old-fashioned committees in an age where information is power and where stories influence policy. It will record proceedings, keep delegates to account, generate timely reportage, and shape the flow of debate in real time. Diplomacy is perceived, construed, and exaggerated. The voice of the press is the active part of the simulation, which has never happened in the history of DLSMUN.
As it is traditionally concerned with its scholarly standard and innovation, the 12th DLSMUN also has committees that represent the most pressing and multifaceted problems of the present-day global environment. The novice delegates will be integrated into the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) where they will be faced with the challenge of empowering the rural population by ensuring its welfare and development and analyze the implications of the transnational data embassies and digital infrastructure. At the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the discussions will not revolve around either mainstreaming agroecological practices in climate-affected countries or the promotion of regenerative aquaculture as a solution to malnutrition but rather require both technical knowledge and human-friendly policymaking.
In the mid-level, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will have the delegates consolidate cross-border mechanisms to assist disaster relief across the Mekong and archipelagic Southeast Asia, and reexamine the Five-Point Consensus due to the humanitarian and political conditions in Myanmar. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will put a challenge to the participants to narrow the Economic disparity between the Global North and South by using sustainable industrial policies and to rethink inclusive innovation in the form of decentralised manufacturing and what equitable development might look like in practice.
To the most seasoned delegates, the developed committees offer intensity that reflects the power structures in the world. Joint Crisis Committee: “States vs. Multinational Corporations: The War on the Climate: a high-stakes game of survival of the environmental environment versus economic gain and political power, where a continuously changing crisis arc becomes the war front. In the meantime, INTERPOL will respond to the protection of Article 3 of its own Constitution to the contemporary application of Red Notices and counter the socio-political danger of automated disinformation campaigns to the integrity of elections. These problems lie at the border of law, technology, and sovereignty.
The culture around DLSMUN is what makes it special, and not just the level of sophistication of the issues. It is a gathering where first-time delegates are braced to pick up their placards for the first time, or where long-time delegates polish their diplomatic tactics in hastily-paced moderated caucuses and where the dais does more than moderate; it counsels, probes, and raises the level of discourse in every room. Study is the pinnacle achievement that cannot be confused with the unmistakable Lasallian ethos of service, where all its actors are reminded that leadership is not defined by prizes or applause but by the desire to listen, to cooperate, and to serve the common good.
With the 12th session coming closer, DLSMUN urges Lasallians to bring with them more than research binders and position papers. It demands voices that are not merely steadfast and loud but rather questioning, creative, and inspiring, and voices that understand diplomacy is not an imaginary practice but a platform where you prepare to be felt in the real world. In a world that tends to be split apart by geographical and ideological boundaries, the given conference serves as a living example of the fact that the concerted efforts of diplomacy and service result in the making of global transformation, which is an undeniable truth.
History is about to be written, the committees are in place, and the stage has been set. Welcome to the 12th DLSMUN. See you in session.
