PRESS RELEASE: BayLayn 2026

Ang Pahayagang Plaridel will once again stage Para sa Bayan at Lasalyano (BayLayn), an inter-high school journalism competition at De La Salle University from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on March 28.

The program aims to strengthen the competencies of student journalists from various secondary
schools in the Philippines in critically engaging with campus and social issues.

Now in its 22nd year, BayLayn carries the theme “Mula sa Masa, Para sa Masa: Pananagutan sa Bayan ng Citizen Journalism,” foregrounding the expanding role of citizen journalism in shaping contemporary media landscapes. It highlights how the public increasingly shapes narratives, while reinforcing the need for accountability, verification, and ethical responsibility in digital platforms.

The Big Talk Seminars will feature Lian Buan, investigative journalist of Rappler, and Zandro Ochona, anchor of DZMM TeleRadyo, who will explore how public voice influences media discourse and contributes to shaping the collective understanding of social issues.

Meanwhile, Eugene Carnaje, Raymund Garlitos, Mark Andrei Cruzet, Johannes Chua, Jimmy Domingo, Jascyl Sayson, Lyndon Diesta, Paolo Del Rosario, and Reynan Esquillo will lead focused sessions across various journalism competition categories, reinforcing the program’s broader discussions on responsible reporting and media practice. Throughout the event, participants will be immersed in a space that values critical inquiry and collaborative learning. Beyond competition, BayLayn continues to position journalism as a public service—it shapes informed communities capable of engaging with truth and accountability to foster a collective action.
