Oh love! Green Day is on its way to cause another musical revolution by releasing three albums in a span of five months. It seems like the group wants to capture the crowd back, and re-enter the punk rock scene by releasing the album trilogy ¡Uno! , ¡Dos! , and ¡Tré! In this album, singer Billie Joe Armstrong wants to go back to their roots with their new songs, comparing the songs in “¡Uno!” as somehow similar to their 1994 album “Dookie,” the group’s bestselling album so far. The album was released last September 21, 2012. The second and third album is set to be released on November 13 and January 15 this year respectively.
This trilogy promises more than 30 songs, which the band had recorded in less than a year. The album starts off very fast and strong; this baby does not kid around as compared to the group’s last two albums, which told stories rock opera style.
The difference between this album and the past two is that this album does not try to tell a story about a guy losing his sanity in a doomed town, or about a couple in a troubled world. It is mainly a collection of songs made for the heck of it, songs about getting what you want; seeing what you see in everyone else; and letting them know that they can stick it where the sun does not shine.
The song “Nuclear Family” welcomes you to the whole album with the familiar Green Day chord progressions and some surprising and catchy bass riffs. The drums, as always, are fantastic under the mastery of Green Day drummer Tre Cool. The album then tramples off to the main songs which will not disappoint Green Day loyalists. All of the songs surprisingly have a catchy chorus, and a certain sound the band has developed along with more new styles of music that show in the song, “Kill the DJ”. The songs in the album are not short on profanity as well; Green Day literally wants to tell you to piss off in the song “Let Yourself Go,” which would leave anyone head-banging with this sure punk rock hit.
The band has already released the music videos for the songs “Nuclear Family”, “Stay the Night”, “Kill the DJ” and the R-18 video for the song “Oh Love”. All the videos have been uploaded by the band via Youtube. This album is even better than their last one, and hopefully the next two albums in this trilogy would not disappoint.
