The DLSU Lady Batters suffered consecutive defeats in their games against the UST Tigresses and the UP Lady Maroons.

With these losses, the Lady Batters now have a 6-6 win-loss record, tying them with the NU Lady Bulldogs in the UAAP Softball Tournament standings.

Against UST last Saturday, March 7, the Lady Batters tallied their fifth loss of the season, 6-2. The Tigresses started with a 2-0 run made by Lacupa and Palma during the first inning to put UST at an early advantage.

The Tigresses completed another run in the third inning while keeping the Lady Batters scoreless. Trailing by three, the Lady Batters were able to trim the Tigresses’ lead to one, 3-2, as Joy Son and Jamica Arribas completed their runs in the fourth inning.

UST, however, widened the gap to four as they scored three runs by the end of the fifth inning. The Lady Batters tried to rally back but was prevented to score due to the tight defense of the UST Tigresses, ending the match with a score of 6-2, in favor of UST.

During the game, La Salle made three hits and incurred a total of six errors. UST, on the other hand, accumulated a total of 10 hits and one error. “Hindi nila na-execute yung simpleng-simpleng out just to stop the runner [of UST]. So hindi kami kaagad nakapagbigay ng score para dugtungan [yung runs namin] eh,”

DLSU coach Alex Estipular commented on the performance of the Lady Batters. “I have to extend more [effort] in batting and defensive practice. Just to maintain our depensa.”

last March 11, the UP Lady Maroons executed a shutout against the Lady Batters as they ended the match with a score of 7-0.

The Lady Batters started the match On a low note as they were unable to get a batter back to the home base. The Lady Maroons, however, immediately scored four runs in the first two innings, courtesy of Cruz, Mendoza, Paz and Abanes.

UP kept La Salle scoreless for the following innings while scoring three more in the fifth inning. UP’s Gonzales stole home to end the game via mercy rule, 7-0, in favor of the Lady Maroons.

Yung error nila. So hindi sila nakapagprepare sa mga ganung play,” Estipular shared. “Every inning, yung two runs na yun, so ibinigay nila sa [kalaban] by error. Tapos hindi nila nasuportahan yung batter,” he explains.

The Lady Batters will participate in a playoff for fourth place this coming Saturday, March 14, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
