UAAP: La Salle bounces back to beat UP

Coming off their first loss of the season against the AdMU Blue Eagles, the DLSU Green Batters bounced back and defeated the UP Fighting Maroons, 11-4, yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond.

With no Final Four and just two teams making it to the Finals, it was an important win as the victory kept La Salle in firm control of a spot in the best-of-three championship series as the first round of the tournament came to a close.

UP got off to a quick start, scoring the game’s first two runs. A big second inning, however, gave La Salle the separation it needed.

A wild pitch allowed DLSU’s first run to score, while hits from Gabo Pineda and Anton Acuña tied the game and gave La Salle its first lead, respectively. More miscues in the inning by the UP defense would result in a six run frame for the Green Batters.

La Salle would score again in the fifth inning through an Ignacio Escaño RBI single and would continue to pour on. The Maroons would continue to fight but it was not enough against the Season 78 champions.

After the first round of the tournament, the team holds a 3-1 win-loss record. This puts them in a three-way tie for first with AdMU and AdU.

La Salle resumes action on February 21, but as of press time, its next opponent has not been released.
