UAAP: Lady Batters’ drought proves costly against defending champions Adamson

In what has been a one-sided affair, the DLSU Lady Batters failed to produce offense as they faltered against the defending champions, Adamson Lady Falcons, 11-0, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond. The team now slides to a 3-3 win-loss record.

The first three innings were not in favor of the Green-and-White offensively as they had scoreless runs. Stellar defense from both teams combined with relenting offense brought the game into stalemate during the first inning. On the other hand, the next two innings brought Adamson to the scoreboard as they set their offensive tempo by going 3-0.

Veronica Velasco and Mercy Arroyo were able to hit to the midfield but failed to clinch points in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, team captain Arribas was the sole hitter to be able to bring the ball to second base. Adamson started their demolition run by scoring five consecutive runs to the dispense of the Lady Batters. Herero began the rally by giving Rusia a Run Batted In (RBI) to reach home base. Padasas closed out the game by bringing Cantor home in the last inning.

When asked about their loss, head coach Jasper Cabrera shared that jitters against the reigning Lady Falcons got the best of his players. “Ngayon talaga, ayun ang ayaw ko. Nag-usap na kami about Adamson na baka matakot kayo dyan kaya ayun, nag-umpisa na kami sa errors.Di na talaga mapigilan, total errors ay nine errors,” he explained. Moreover, Coach Jasper mentioned, “‘Di na nagconnect kaya yung mga bata namin nataranta na. Ninerbyos na kaya kulang pa talaga. Kailangan pa talaga ma-motivate yung mga bata.”

(I did not like our performance today. We talked about Adamson and I guess we were scared, so we started off with errors. We couldn’t stop making mistakes, we had a total of nine errors.)

(We were not in sync with each other so we tilted off. We got nervous so efforts were not enough. We need more motivation.)

As of press time, the schedule for round two of the UAAP Season 81 Softball Tournament is yet to be released. The team from Taft will look to regain their momentum in their next matchup.
