The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) finally decided to release the official results of this year’s General Elections this Saturday. The commissioners from the different colleges postponed the release amidst unofficial online statements posted by Dlsu Usg Pulse via Facebook last week.
Prior to the conclusion of ballot canvassing last March 24, many Facebook and Twitter accounts were already announcing the results. The most prominent source of the unauthorized statements is the Dlsu Usg Pulse account on Facebook.
According to Kenneth Sy, COMELEC Chair, canvassing ended at 7pm that day. Dlsu Usg Pulse, however, started announcing the winners for the USG Executive Committee positions an hour before the ballot count ended. Dlsu Usg Pulse is not affiliated with the USG.
Consequently, many students posted results based on these unofficial statements.
Consequently, the Judiciary released a statement saying that the announcement of winners will be postponed until all posts related to the GE outcome were removed from the said account to avoid misinforming students. Nevertheless, COMELEC decided to follow the original schedule of release.
GE results are set to be released this Saturday.
Both Alyansang Tapat sa Lasallista (Tapat) and Iisang Tugon sa Tawag ng Panahon (Santugon) have denied connections with Dlsu Usg Pulse. COMELEC will conduct investigations to determine the identity of the owner of the said account.
